Jerry Speziale will get in the Democratic Primary race for Passaic County sheriff by week’s end.
He won’t be running to get on the line, just putting his head down and running off the line.
Speziale served as sheriff from 2001 to 2010 before leaving the position to serve at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
He subsequently resurfaced as the police director in Paterson.
The untimely death of Sheriff Richard Berdnik in January created election year opportunity for those looking to run the countywide law enforcement agency.
Also in the hunt for the job: Mason J. Maher of Hawthorne, in what one source described as potentially a free-for-all for the top cop’s job.
Maher, formerly a Republican, wants the Democratic nomination.
