Ruben Ramos Announces Candidacy for Hoboken Mayor on Insider NJ

Pledging to get city government back to basics and focus on critical needs like public safety, quality of life, programs for seniors and children, and housing affordability, City Councilman Ruben Ramos announced today that he will run for Mayor of Hoboken in November. A public school teacher, former State Assemblyman, lifelong Hoboken resident, cancer survivor, husband and father, Ramos has served as Fourth Ward Councilman since 2015.

“As a public school teacher I’ve seen what can happen when we lose focus on what’s most important, and that has happened far too often in Hoboken city government,” said Councilman Ramos. “I’m running for Mayor to get Hoboken back to basics and make sure that we address critical needs like improving public safety, protecting our quality of life, ensuring that we have strong programs for our seniors and our children and taking action to make our city more affordable. I’m looking forward to listening to residents over the next nine months and sharing my vision for Hoboken.”

About Ruben Ramos: 

A lifelong Hoboken resident, Ruben Ramos serves as the city’s Fourth Ward Councilman and he was the youngest Council member in city history when he was first elected as 4th Ward Councilman in 1999. He was then  elected as Councilman at Large in 2001. He was elected to the State Assembly representing the 33rd Legislative District in 2007 and served three terms. Ruben is a public school teacher who has worked for the Paterson school district for over 27 years, currently teaching middle school students. He is a cancer survivor who was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Disease in 1999 and made a full recovery. Ruben and his wife Norma have three children who have attended local public schools and he lives in Southwest Hoboken.
