Ed Rodriguez of Elizabeth and Walter Wimbush of Roselle have officially launched their campaign for the Democratic nomination in New Jersey’s 20th Legislative District, representing Elizabeth, Union, Roselle, and Kenilworth.
“We don’t have the luxury of time, and we don’t have the patience for leaders who refuse to act,” said Rodriguez. “Trump and his movement are marching forward, and too many Democrats are standing by, hoping someone else will stop them. That is a betrayal of everything this moment demands. In the Assembly, I’ll fight for renters and homeowners, better healthcare, a transportation policy that considers commuters as much as cars, and fully funded schools. I’m prepared to meet this moment with the seriousness it deserves, because if we stand for nothing, we stand to lose everything.”
Rodriguez, the former Director of Planning & Community Development for Elizabeth, led initiatives that revitalized neighborhoods, reduced abandoned properties from 487 to 9, and expanded affordable housing. A Rutgers University economics graduate, he credits his family’s small business with instilling in him the values of hard work and perseverance.
Walter Wimbush, a lifelong Roselle resident, turned personal tragedy into a commitment to community service. After losing two friends to violence, he dedicated himself to mentoring local youth, founding the Roselle Big Brother Program, and coaching youth football. As Worshipful Master of Roselle Acacia Lodge #23 P.H.A., he has received numerous awards for his leadership.
“Too many in our party refuse to acknowledge the stakes of this fight,” said Wimbush. “It is a moral failure to respond to Trump’s threats with caution instead of conviction. I’ve spent my life standing up for my community—whether mentoring at-risk youth, fighting for better schools, or leading grassroots efforts to uplift working families. Now, I’m ready to take that fight to the State Assembly, to demand affordable healthcare, housing justice for renters and homeowners, and politics that work for the people. Democrats must be ready to meet the moment—and I am.”
The Rodriguez/Wimbush campaign is committed to grassroots organizing, meeting residents directly through community events and volunteer efforts. The campaign is proud to announce its launch today on the 28th, in recognition of the “Economic Blackout” initiative led by The People’s Union, standing in solidarity with those protesting the corporate takeover of our political system.
