Robert DeNiro supports fundraising efforts for presidential candidate Kamala Harris with 'Paisans for Kamala' event - Insider NJ

Legendary actor Robert DeNiro of New York City tonight joined “Paisans for Kamala,” anchored by former NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio, in support of the presidential candidacy of Kamala Harris.

“This is all so important for all of us to support Kamala Harris and Tim Walz,” DeNiro said on the Zoom call. “I don’t know what to say except that I hope we raise a lot of money.  I’m very optimistic, but to me it ain’t over til it’s over. We can’t for one second let up, because they’re going to try everything.”

DeNiro, who won the Best Actor Oscar for playing Jake LaMotta in Raging Bull, described the candidacy of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump as “just insane.”

He added, “I think people who would normally support Trump could very well see that there is a way with [the ticket of Kamala Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz] that is more for them because Trump doesn’t offer anything.”

“Paisans for Kamala” also included former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, actress Marisa Tomei, actress Alyssa Milano, actress Lorraine Bracco, and former United States Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta.

Doing his part to bond and raise money for the Harris for President Campaign, DeNiro said he missed the homemade pizza of director Martin Scorsese’s late mother, and wished he could include it on the menu of his own Tribeca Grill. “It was so simple, so light, and so perfect,” DeNiro said.

The actor has made no secret of his opposition to Trump. Earlier this year, he called Donald Trump a “clown” bent on destroying American democracy outside the New York City courtroom and the Republican presidential candidate’s hush money trial.

De Niro, a longtime Democrat who recently voiced an ad for Democratic President Joe Biden, attended a Biden campaign event outside the Manhattan courtroom with two former law enforcement officers, Harry Dunn and Michael Fanone, who were at the U.S. Capitol when it was attacked by Trump supporters on Jan. 6, 2021.
