Longtime Jersey City Councilman and community leader Danny Rivera announced this morning that he will join mayoral candidate Bill O’Dea’s slate, “Our City. Our Choice.” in the 2025 election. First elected in 2013, Councilman Rivera has served the city with distinction and has been a steadfast advocate for affordable housing, public safety and other critical issues facing Jersey City. Rivera joins educator and Jersey City Education Association leader Kristen Zadroga-Hart on O’Dea’s Council at-Large slate, with additional candidates expected to be announced soon.
“I’ve known Bill O’Dea for many years and I can honestly say that I have never met a more caring, compassionate public servant who has truly dedicated his life to making a difference here in Jersey City,” said Councilman Rivera. “I’m honored to join the O’Dea Team and to have the opportunity to continue giving back to the people of this incredible city. I know that Bill O’Dea is the best choice to continue moving Jersey City forward while ensuring that no one is left behind, no neighborhoods are forgotten and every resident is given the opportunity to thrive here in our community.”
Dozens of local community leaders, fellow elected officials, family and friends attended the press conference to show their support for the councilman. Notable attendees included Hudson County Clerk Junior Maldonado, Vice President of the Jersey City Education Association Mike Greco, Former Ward B Councilman Phil Kenny, Local Activist Pam Johnson, Jersey City Board of Education Trustees Natalia Ioffe and Noemi Velazquez and many more.
A longtime elected member of the Hudson County Board of Commissioners and lifelong city resident, Bill O’Dea launched his campaign for Mayor of Jersey City late last year and has since gained considerable support among residents, community organizations, labor unions and more.
“Danny Rivera has a clear understanding of not just the challenges that our community faces, but of what makes Jersey City such a special place and why we need to keep fighting to make it the best it can be for all of us,” said O’Dea. “I’m excited to welcome someone with Councilman Rivera’s vast experience in elected office to our Council team, and I look forward to working closely with him to make Jersey City more affordable, safer and stronger.”
