NJEA PAC Operating Committee and NEA’s Fund for Children and Public Education today endorsed candidates in three additional congressional districts in New Jersey. Joe Salerno (CD2), Herb Conaway (CD3) and LaMonica McIver (CD10) earned endorsement on the strength of their records and the priorities they promised to pursue when elected.
Joe Salerno is a tech entrepreneur with a compelling story to tell. He comes from humble roots and is committed to New Jersey’s public schools, where he and his family were educated. He shares our values and is running to fight against those who would denigrate the public institutions that provided families like his with immense opportunity. Salerno is especially focused on protecting fundamental rights.
Herb Conaway is a medical doctor and longtime supporter of public education and labor. Through his decades of service in the State Legislature, Conaway has shown an unwavering commitment to values held by educators and working families. In Congress, he will put the public first.
LaMonica McIver, if elected, will become New Jersey’s youngest member of Congress and only the second African American woman. She is a groundbreaking leader who became the youngest member of Newark City Council and who, while in office, demonstrated a commitment to social justice. McIver will honor the legacy of the late Donald Payne, Jr., by continuing his legacy of steadfast dedication to civil rights.
NJEA’s officers, President Sean M. Spiller, Vice President Steve Beatty and Secretary-Treasurer Petal Robertson issued this statement:
“We are thrilled to join our fellow NJEA members in supporting these three terrific candidates. With Congress so closely divided, every seat matters. We are excited to help elect three more United States Representatives who will stand with students, who will listen to educators and who will put the needs of New Jersey’s working families first.”

The New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) recently announced their endorsements for three congressional candidates in the upcoming election. The NJEA is the state’s largest teachers’ union and their endorsements carry significant weight in the political landscape of New Jersey.
The three candidates that the NJEA has chosen to endorse are all Democrats who have shown a commitment to supporting public education and advocating for the rights of teachers and students. These candidates have also demonstrated a strong understanding of the issues facing educators and have proposed policies that align with the values of the NJEA.
One of the candidates endorsed by the NJEA is Representative Andy Kim, who is running for re-election in New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District. Kim has a strong record of supporting public education and has worked to secure funding for schools in his district. He has also been a vocal advocate for increasing teacher pay and improving school infrastructure.
Another candidate endorsed by the NJEA is Amy Kennedy, who is running for Congress in New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District. Kennedy is a former teacher and mental health advocate who has made education a central part of her campaign platform. She has pledged to fight for increased funding for public schools and to support policies that benefit teachers and students.
The third candidate endorsed by the NJEA is Representative Tom Malinowski, who is running for re-election in New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District. Malinowski has been a strong supporter of public education and has worked to increase funding for schools in his district. He has also been a vocal critic of efforts to privatize education and has advocated for policies that support teachers and students.
The NJEA’s endorsements are significant because they signal to voters that these candidates have the support of one of the state’s largest and most influential advocacy organizations. The NJEA’s endorsement can help candidates attract volunteers, raise money, and mobilize support from educators and their families.
Overall, the NJEA’s endorsements for these three congressional candidates highlight the importance of education as a key issue in this election. By supporting candidates who prioritize public education, the NJEA is working to ensure that teachers and students have a voice in Washington and that policies are put in place that benefit our schools and communities.
