New Jersey Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association (NJ FMBA) announced their endorsement of the U.S. House of Representative Candidate LaMonica McIver in the upcoming special election to replace the late Rep. Donald Payne, Jr. in New Jersey’s 10th congressional district.
The decision was made by unanimous decision during their June monthly meeting.
“As president of the Newark City Council, LaMonica has shown a willingness to always communicate with the public safety professionals who keep that city safe,” said NJ FMBA President Ed Donnelly. “LaMonica listens, and puts her words of support into action.”
Donnelly continued, “former Representative Donald Payne Jr., like his father Representative Payne, Sr. always carried himself with class and dignity, and was never afraid to stand up for his constituents in the halls of Congress. We know that LaMonica will serve the same way. An endorsement from NJFMBA is not just words on a piece of paper, it means mobilization and real support. Between now and July 16th we will be boots on the ground in Essex, Hudson, Morris, and Union counties, and, ultimately in the voting booth, to help send LaMonica McIver to Congress.”
The New Jersey Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association is a labor union representing over 5000 career firefighters, EMT’s, and dispatchers across the State of New Jersey.
LaMonica McIver, 37, is currently the Council President of the Newark Municipal Council, where she has served since 2018 as the youngest elected person in that role. Deemed as the frontrunner in the Congressional race to succeed the late Rep. Donald Payne, Jr. McIver is endorsed by the Chair of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee, the Essex County Democratic Committee and the Union County Democratic Committee. The special primary election is July 16, 2024 in New Jersey congressional district 10 that includes parts of Essex, Hudson and Union Counties.
