TRENTON, NJ: NJDSC Chair LeRoy J. Jones Jr., is releasing the following statement:
Tonight, New Jersey’s Delegation voted a resounding YES to endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris for President, with our two uncommitted delegates remaining uncommitted.
I want to thank Governor Murphy, Senator Booker, our Congressional delegation, State, County and local leaders, and delegates who spoke tonight from the heart about their support for Vice President Harris and who spoke of the achievements of President Biden these last few years, and over the course of his long career.
Among the New Jersey Democratic Party’s many core strengths is our ability to always come together as a family and arrive at a position of unity towards common goals.
This will be the most critical fight we have undertaken because it will truly impact generations to come. A Trump win in November would ensure women are denied the right to make their own healthcare decisions, roll back critical environmental protections, decimate our education system, and expand the executive powers of an individual who has already repeatedly praised dictators and expressed his desire to follow in their footsteps.
Not to mention the fact that allowing Donald Trump a second term potentially provides him the opportunity to even further damage our judicial system and expand his totalitarian ideological reach into our Supreme Court.
During the call tonight it was made abundantly clear that New Jersey Democrats want to see Vice President Kamala Harris become our Presidential nominee and Party standard-bearer in this upcoming fight for our country’s future.
If I may steal a phrase, New Jersey Democrats are ‘fired up and ready to go’ to help Vice President Harris secure the nomination and then do the work required to make sure Democrats win up and down the ballot.
We will see you in Chicago, ready to deliver our State Party’s affirmation for Kamala Harris and the Democratic ticket.
