Today, Governor Phil Murphy announced several promotions within the Governor’s Office Operations Department. Marie-Marthelle Guervil will now serve as a Senior Director for Operations, with Sophia LoPresti, Daron Vasquez, and Christian Mejia now serving as Senior Aides to the Governor.

Under Michelle DeAngelo Bucceri’s leadership, I am confident that Marthelle, Daron, Sophia, and Christian will excel in their new senior roles as they continue to serve the great state of New Jersey.”

As Senior Director for Operations, Marie-Marthelle Guervil will continue her work within the Administration by overseeing operations and logistics. Since joining the Governor’s Office in 2018, Guervil has worked as the Deputy Director of Advance and Briefings, and later the Director of Advance and Briefings. While serving in these roles, Guervil directed logistics for high-level events ensuring media, policy, and security needs were met. Prior to her time at the Governor’s Office, Guervil worked as the Field Operator for the New Jersey Democratic Committee and Parano & Associates. Her work supported fundraising and communications efforts, as well as research assistance and management consulting. With Parano & Associates, Guervil also worked on Phil Murphy’s first gubernatorial campaign from 2016. Guervil resides in Union County and received her BA at Montclair State University and her MA from New Jersey City University.
Sophia LoPresti has served in the Office of New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy since September 2021 as Head of Briefing and an Aide to the Governor in the Operations Department. As Head of Briefing, Sophia is responsible for curating and drafting briefing materials for the Governor of the State of New Jersey on his daily operations, public or private facing engagements, and high-level national conferences. She also works on the Governor’s Advance team, executing on-the-ground support and logistics for the Governor’s events. Prior to serving the Administration, she worked as an Advisor on Stockton University’s 50th Anniversary Exhibit Committee and as a Curatorial Assistant at Hellenic College Holy Cross. Born and raised in Camden County, LoPresti graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Historical Studies and a Minor in Latin from Stockton University. While serving as Head of Briefing, LoPresti graduated summa cum laude from Stockton University with a Master of Arts in American Studies.
Prior to being promoted to Senior Aide to the Governor, Daron Vasquez most recently served as Head of Advance, managing the Advance team for the Office of the Governor. His responsibilities included: staffing the Governor during public facing events throughout New Jersey and New York; coordinating with all levels of the United States Government, foreign offices, and various organizations; and leading a dedicated team of advance aides to execute press conferences, bill signings, groundbreakings, and speeches. Daron Vasquez joined the Governor’s Office in 2022 as an Advance Aide. Prior to joining the Governor’s office, Daron Vasquez served as a Staff Assistant and a Caseworker for the late Congressman Bill Pascrell, Jr. from 2019 to 2022. He began in his office with an internship in 2018. The son of Peruvian immigrants, Daron Vasquez received a bachelor’s degree from Montclair State University.
Prior to being promoted to Senior Aide of Operations, Christian Mejia most recently served as an Advance and Briefings Aide, executing the Governor’s public facing events, organizing his private meetings, and gaining a profound understanding of political event planning, audiovisual production skills, and event operational skills. Previously, Christian Mejia interned for the late Congressman Bill Pascrell Jr., both in his Washington D.C. office and his District Office. During his time in Washington D.C., Christian focused on legislative briefings while in the Congressman’s Paterson Office, he specialized in bilingual casework. Christian Mejia obtained his bachelor’s degree from Centenary University and his master’s degree from Rutgers University.
The Operations Department includes both Advance and Briefings and Scheduling, and is led by Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations Michelle DeAngelo Bucceri.
