LaMonica McIver Statement on Stepping Down as Newark City Council President
———
Since 2022, I have had the privilege and the honor of serving as the President of the Newark City Council. Together, we have made enormous strides moving Newark Forward. As a Council we have made significant accomplishments, including improving our water infrastructure, increasing affordable housing, establishing the state’s only landbank, reimagining public safety and much more. I’m proud of our agenda and achievements.
As Council President, my focus has always been on addressing the needs of residents and setting a course for sustained success and prosperity where every Newarker can build a bright future for themselves and their families. The many dedicated residents, volunteers and public professionals who serve this city every day give me the utmost confidence that there is nothing this city can’t accomplish. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve as Council President, and I look forward to continuing to work with the Council and the residents of the city as we strive to unlock the full potential of our great city.
The needs and aspirations of the residents of Newark will forever be at the top of my agenda, regardless of the office or position I hold. In me, Newark has a champion for equity, affordability and opportunity, always.
