Today, U.S. Rep. Andy Kim (D-3) delivered yet another win for his grassroots campaign, this time in Warren County. Kim won over 80% of the vote and won by 65 points over First Lady Tammy Murphy after delegates voted via secret paper ballot between all Democratic primary candidates declared for U.S. Senate.
This win, along with victories in Monmouth, Burlington, Hunterdon, and Sussex Counties which also occurred by secret ballot, shows that Kim wins when political elites are unable to use pressure tactics to shut down the grassroots energy that Congressman Kim has continued to build with rank-and-file Democrats, and proves that he has the support of Democrats when they are able to freely vote without worry of retribution. He now looks to take this momentum to the Bergen County convention tomorrow.
“It is so important for Democrats to show up and have their voices heard all across the state, especially in those areas that are traditionally Republican strongholds,” said Kim. “Thanks to everyone who turned out and voted this afternoon! The energy we saw today will help us take our grassroots momentum through June 4th and into November.”
First elected to Congress in 2018 at the age of 36, three-term Congressman Kim is one of the younger members to serve in Congress and is the first Asian American elected to federal office from New Jersey. If elected to the Senate, he would be the fourth youngest Senator, the first senator from South Jersey in recent memory, and the first Asian American elected to the Senate from the entire east coast of America. In 2018 and 2020, Kim defeated two self-funding millionaires in a district carried by former President Trump, and in 2022 he defeated his third self-funding millionaire opponent by 12 points.
In his three terms in Congress, Kim said he has worked hard to lower costs for New Jersey families and help support small businesses through challenging times. Kim described himself as “a leading champion in fighting against corruption in our broken politics.”
