Last night, Senator Andy Kim joined local law enforcement from Clinton Township to visit multiple locations in Hunterdon County where real-time drone activity was being reported. The Senator observed sightings of multiple unexplained and unidentified drones and reiterated his strong calls to federal authorities including Homeland Security and the FBI to rigorously investigate and provide immediate answers to New Jerseyans about the mysterious activity.
“It’s hard for people to feel secure when there are unexplained drones flying overhead and they’re not getting answers they need from the federal investigation,” said Senator Kim. “This has been going on for weeks and I’m just as frustrated as everyone else in not getting more information and details. That’s why I came out to see for myself, and I’m grateful for local police for taking me around.”
Over the course of nearly two hours, Kim and local law enforcement witnessed dozens of drones flying in Hunterdon County. Kim’s visit comes the same day he joined Senators Schumer, Gillibrand, and Booker in publishing a letter requesting that, “the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) brief us as soon as possible on how your agencies are working with federal and local law enforcement to identify and address the source of these incursions.”
“People deserve answers,” continued Kim. “We don’t need conspiracy theories or conjecture, we need assurances that the people charged with keeping us safe are on top of this issue, and a line of communication so that people feel like their government is taking this seriously.”
“I’m glad that we were able to help Senator Kim come to Clinton Township so he can see what our neighbors have been seeing. I’m hoping that we can all work together to help identify who these drones are and what they are doing in our neighborhoods,” said Chief of Police Tom DeRosa.
On December 4th, Senator Kim participated in a briefing hosted by New Jersey Governor Murphy with DHS Secretary Mayorkas about the agency’s response and investigation into the recent drone sightings and coordination between local, state, and federal entities.
