Insider NJ: Cryan Urges Democrats to Reflect on National Election Results for New Jersey

The New Jersey election results showed a deterioration of support for the Democratic Party, as voter apathy assailed the candidacy of Kamala Harris, Democratic nominee for President, who prevailed in this blue state over convicted felon Republican Donald J. Trump by a mere five points.

Said veteran state Senator Joe Cryan (D-20), a former state Democratic Party chairman, “The national election should serve as a self-reflection of New Jersey, where legislatively we need to focus on bills that impact everyday people’s lives for the better. As for the party, we need to end the haves and have nots mentality with action and results for the people. It’s time to walk the walk, not just talk the talk.”

Cryan oversees a district that in part combines urban Elizabeth and Union Twp., in a Democratic-run county that on Election Day saw less than robust turnout of voters at 60%, who went 61-37% for Harris.

A supporter of his party and his fellow party leaders, Cryan at the same time sees the election results as an opportunity to urgently prioritize funding equality for all school children and consolidation of public sector services and resources to better serve hurting taxpayers.

The Essex County-born lawmaker with strong ties to public sector labor and law enforcement (he is a former Union County Sheriff and the son of the late Essex County Sheriff John F. Cryan), Cryan is a possible future senate president whose name routinely circles among leaders looking to put together a party deal for 2025. Whether or not that position materializes for him as part of the post-Phil Murphy era, Cryan represents at the very least a coveted endorsement in the developing Democratic Primary for governor, especially as U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill and U.S. Rep. Josh Gottheimer jockey aggressively for position on the eve of their respective campaign kickoffs. Candidates courting him will likely encounter someone eager to hear the deep details of their ideas about how precisely they can make New Jersey more affordable and livable, restore trust in government, and defeat a Trump-reanimated Republican Party.

In the wake of the recent national election results, New Jersey Democrats are being urged to reflect on the outcomes and consider how they can apply the lessons learned to their own state. State Senator Joseph Cryan, a prominent figure in the New Jersey Democratic Party, has been vocal about the need for introspection and strategic planning in light of the shifting political landscape.

The 2020 election saw Democrats lose ground in several key races across the country, including the presidency and control of the Senate. This has prompted many within the party to reassess their messaging, outreach efforts, and overall strategy moving forward. Cryan believes that New Jersey Democrats must take heed of these results and make necessary adjustments to ensure success in future elections.

One of the key takeaways from the national election is the importance of connecting with voters on a personal level and addressing their concerns directly. Cryan emphasizes the need for Democrats to listen to the voices of all constituents, including those who may not traditionally align with the party. By engaging in meaningful dialogue and understanding the diverse perspectives within their communities, Democrats can better tailor their policies and messaging to resonate with a broader audience.

Additionally, Cryan stresses the importance of unity within the party and working together towards common goals. In order to be successful in upcoming elections, New Jersey Democrats must set aside internal divisions and focus on presenting a cohesive and compelling vision for the future. By rallying around shared values and priorities, Democrats can build a stronger and more inclusive party that is better equipped to win over voters.

As New Jersey gears up for its own state elections in the coming years, Cryan’s message serves as a timely reminder for Democrats to reflect on the national results and take proactive steps to position themselves for success. By learning from past mistakes, embracing diversity, and fostering unity within the party, New Jersey Democrats can chart a path forward that resonates with voters and leads to electoral victories.
