Elected in 2017, Ridley has championed housing, education, and inclusive government in her time on the council. This work has included her chairing of the Bayfront Redevelopment Advisory Board, helping economically challenged families send their kids to summer camp for free, and ensuring the revitalization of the small businesses on Ocean Ave helps the people of Greenville.

About Councilwoman Denise Ridley
Councilwoman Denise Ridley is a life-long Jersey City resident. She earned her undergraduate degree at Hampton University in psychology with a minor in Spanish. Ridley completed her master’s degree in industrial/organizational psychology at Montclair State University. Through the years, Ridley has provided pro bono executive coaching as well as developed new job descriptions, performance management structures, and discipline policies for companies in the pharmaceutical and education industries. The Councilwoman spent 16 years in a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry. In addition, Ridley is also a licensed real estate agent.
She is currently a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, National Coalition of 100 Black Women, and Rotary Club. She is Council President ProTempore, Chairwoman of the Bayfront Redevelopment Advisory Board, Vice-Chair of the Jersey City Redevelopment Agency, and a member of the Jersey City Economic Development Corporation Board. She has also served as Committeewoman for her voting district since first being elected in 2013.
In her role as Councilwoman, Ridley said she has added signature yearly events to the Ward such as the Ward A MLK Day of Service and Annual Ward A Trunk or Treat. She has introduced legislation that has led to stricter laws around vaping, the establishment of a Jersey City Black Business Day, more controls around lithium ion battery sales, and regulations on unauthorized vehicles on City roads. She has added close to 100 new parking spaces in her Ward, is currently leading the charge for a recreation center in each ward, and championing enhanced fire safety in Bergen Lafayette.
Ridley said she is determined to continue moving Ward A forward through collaboration with its residents. She believes in an inclusive approach to government and supports her neighbors. Ms. Ridley truly believes service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.
