Burzichelli Statement on Resignation of PJM’s CEO
Senator John Burzichelli, a member of the Senate Select Committee reviewing the spike in utility rates, issued the following statement on the announced resignation of Manu Asthana, the CEO of PJM Interconnection, the regional power grid that determines utility rates for New Jersey and other states:
“The departure of PJM’s President is an opportunity for the organization that determines our utility rates to reform its practices to prevent the spikes in electric bills that have been imposed on New Jersey ratepayers. Hopefully, this signals a change in priorities that will make consumer affordability the principal goal. As the disastrous results of the latest energy auction show, the current system is broken. I urge PJM officials to start immediately focusing on consumer-friendly reforms.
“I wish the departing President well. Perhaps he could do ratepayers a favor and take PJM’s auction results with him so they can start over.”
The recent departure of Andy Ott, the CEO of PJM Interconnection, has created an opportunity for utility rate reform, according to New Jersey Assemblyman John Burzichelli.
PJM Interconnection is a regional transmission organization that manages the electricity grid for 13 states and the District of Columbia. The organization plays a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of the electricity system in the region.
However, there have been concerns raised about the way PJM operates and the impact it has on utility rates for consumers. Burzichelli has been a vocal critic of PJM, arguing that the organization’s policies have led to higher electricity costs for residents in New Jersey.
With Ott’s departure, Burzichelli sees an opportunity to push for reforms that could lead to lower utility rates for consumers. He believes that a new CEO at PJM could bring fresh perspectives and ideas to the organization, potentially leading to changes that benefit ratepayers.
Burzichelli has called for greater transparency and accountability from PJM, as well as a focus on promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency measures. He believes that these changes could help lower utility rates and create a more sustainable energy system for the region.
Overall, the departure of PJM’s CEO presents an opportunity for utility rate reform that could benefit consumers in New Jersey and beyond. Burzichelli is hopeful that with the right leadership in place, positive changes can be made to ensure a more affordable and sustainable energy future.
