As members of his party try to figure out what to do about President Joe Biden, Democratic State Committee Chairman LeRoy Jones has a message for the troops in this presidential campaign season.
“We need to work harder and worry less,” Jones told InsiderNJ.
Biden is the party nominee for president and his supporters, Jones said, need to “stay focused.”
The chairman is pleased with the job Biden has done for the country and for New Jersey. Governor Phil Murphy today delivered remarks regarding the Hudson Tunnel project, a long-stalled initiative ramrodded by Biden.
Notwithstanding the chairman’s support for the incumbent president and another four years, party members behind the scenes continue to pull their hair out over Biden’s debate performance last month and his subsequent inability to look situationally aware. Off-the-record groans greeted his interview Friday night with ABC News personality George Stephanopoulos, and news of the White House furnishing friendly questions to a Philadelphia interviewer for the president likewise prompted exasperation and disgust.
But Jones – and others on background in the NJ Democratic Party – say the country needs to keep its eyes on the prize. The chair said he is committed to defeating convicted felon Donald Trump – the Republican nominee for president – with Biden, whose record speaks for itself.
The president himself today told Capitol Hill Dems to stop freaking out.
“I want you to know that despite all the speculation in the press and elsewhere, I am firmly committed to staying in this race, to running this race to the end, and to beating Donald Trump,” Biden wrote in a letter, obtained by CNN.
“The question of how to move forward has been well-aired for over a week now. And it’s time for it to end,” he added. “We have one job. And that is to beat Donald Trump. We have 42 days to the Democratic Convention and 119 days to the general election. Any weakening of resolve or lack of clarity about the task ahead only helps Trump and hurts us. It is time to come together, move forward as a unified party, and defeat Donald Trump.”

In a recent article published by Insider NJ, political strategist Jones has some advice for Democrats: focus on hard work and reduce stress. Jones, who has worked with numerous Democratic campaigns over the years, believes that in order to be successful in the current political climate, Democrats need to prioritize hard work and avoid getting bogged down by stress.
According to Jones, one of the biggest challenges facing Democrats is the constant pressure to perform and deliver results. With the rise of social media and 24-hour news cycles, politicians are under constant scrutiny and criticism, which can lead to high levels of stress and burnout. Jones believes that by focusing on hard work and staying true to their values, Democrats can overcome these challenges and achieve their goals.
Jones also emphasizes the importance of building strong relationships with constituents and voters. By listening to their concerns and addressing their needs, Democrats can build trust and loyalty among their base. This, in turn, can help them win elections and enact meaningful change.
In addition to hard work and building relationships, Jones also stresses the importance of self-care and reducing stress. He believes that in order to be effective leaders, Democrats need to take care of themselves both physically and mentally. This means getting enough rest, eating well, exercising regularly, and finding healthy ways to cope with stress.
Overall, Jones’s advice to Democrats is clear: focus on hard work, build strong relationships with constituents, and prioritize self-care to reduce stress. By following these principles, Democrats can navigate the challenges of modern politics and achieve success in their campaigns.
