Trenton, NJ – In a unanimous decision, Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin has been re-elected for his fourth term as the leader of the New Jersey General Assembly. Alongside his re-election, Speaker Coughlin has also unveiled the Assembly Democrats’ senior leadership team for the upcoming 221st session.

Speaker Coughlin’s re-election comes as no surprise, given his proven track record of effective leadership and dedication to serving the people of New Jersey. Throughout his tenure, Coughlin has consistently demonstrated his commitment to advancing progressive policies and working towards a better future for all residents of the Garden State.

With his re-election secured, Speaker Coughlin wasted no time in announcing the members of his senior leadership team, which includes a diverse group of experienced legislators who will play crucial roles in shaping New Jersey’s legislative agenda for the upcoming session.

Assemblyman Louis Greenwald has been appointed as Majority Leader, a position he has held since 2012. Greenwald’s extensive experience and deep understanding of the legislative process make him an invaluable asset to the Assembly Democrats. As Majority Leader, he will be responsible for coordinating the party’s legislative priorities and ensuring effective communication between members.

Assemblywoman Shavonda Sumter has been named Speaker Pro Tempore, a role that involves presiding over Assembly sessions in the Speaker’s absence.
